Forsythe’s interactive installation invites viewers to participate in navigating through a minefield of kinetic sculpture, not unlike a game of dodgeball: swerving to elude the swinging metal ballasts, suspended from the ceiling. Beyond play, the work creates an awareness of the body in space and time: in a state of unsettling disequilibrium, contrasting the rhythmic metronomic movement of suspended pendula. The title suggests a dance, but it is a manipulated dance orchestrated to rupture balance and stasis, developing a heightened sentience of the liminal body. A practical physical and mental maneuver akin to operating in our current political climate.
