Human, alien, animal, vegetable, respond to Alison Knowles’ computer-generated poem, House of Dust. Randomness and inter-species cooperation define the Object-Oriented Ontology sparked by Knowles’ Fluxus dream. Two pieces strike her original harmony between humorously unpredicted and uncannily personal: 1) a wireless projector rides a Roomba vacuum around this dusty house, relaying internet videos of cats atop roaming turtles to the nearest surface (your leg, maybe), and 2), a simple algorithmic invitation to “leave something / take an apple.” Here, plants eat artwork made only for them and eels take your deepest secrets back to their murky river-homes.
