What does it mean to methodically cut, slice, lacerate, dismember, and dissect as a subversive act of prudent creation? Not only the image, but the words—dismantled, repeated and distorted until meaning is blurred, a glitched subtext or metatext or meme. A gallimaufry of works from The Disaster Series, “The Dogs of War” references Shakespeare, Forsyth, mercenaries and steampunk board game geeks, while addressing the manipulation of language by those in power to persuade and provoke. Horn’s process provides the viewer with literal and figurative glimpses between the lines to question the code of observances with malleable implications.
