Suh’s sculpture subverts the premise that architecture is a static, immutable and immalleable form, providing security, stability and protection from outside forces. His use of translucent material ruptures the boundaries between public/private and insider/outsider. The transportable form also speaks to migration and how architecture informs our collective idea of home. The “home” design is clearly western and references remnants of Colonialism and fear of the other, as evidenced by the filigreed decorative door knob and ADT security emblem. As one enters the door, they are no longer outside or inside, but enveloped into a limbo space, one that connects people, places and journeys.
